ABERDEEN FILM SHOWCASE was an event that took place on March 28 at the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

It was a starting point for a Film Collective on Aberdeen.

The Aberdeen Film Showcase brings together local and South Dakota filmmakers, students, and audiences to celebrate storytelling while fostering connection and creative collaboration. Featuring over 20 short films, a live panel, and built-in networking, the event creates space for artists and audiences to engage, share ideas, and build relationships. In a rural region with limited film infrastructure, it serves as a vital platform for emerging and established filmmakers to share work, gain inspiration, and grow a sustainable creative ecosystem. Funding supports key costs including filmmaker travel, lodging, catering that encourages participation, and event production.

This event supports the formation of The Be Kind Film Collective, working to expand collaborative filmmaking and film programming while revitalizing a film festival that reflects the scale and ambition of our region’s creative community. Together, this work strengthens community connection and cultural vitality while embracing Aberdeen’s role as the creative hub of our region, bringing people together with bold programming to build something meaningful.
